About Newton House Gin

The initial aroma is of a gentle sense of mint and English garden fragrances, inspiring thoughts of the fresh and bright flavors to come and the gin’s origin in the South Somerset countryside.

Once on the tongue the gentleness of pine from the juniper is further softened by peach and a hint of almond before blueberry deceives with an almost cassis like invitation, the coriander seed then providing a sharp citrus note.

Overall it whispers subtlety with a length and delicacy enhanced by an enjoyably long and fresh finish. The English grown distilled wheat spirit used as the gin’s base gives a long lasting flavour, allowing the Bergamot to blossom providing a floral and citrus warmth before ending with a delicate white peppery finish. The Gin’s 43.2% ABV has been specifically rectified to ensure all flavours are maximised on the palate. This has been made possible by the careful use of the Newton House Estate’s spring water which has flowed, uninterrupted into the River Yeo for centuries. It is fresh, clear and unique…the perfect match for Newton House Gin.

Newton House Gin is the perfect pre-dinner sipper, working entrancingly well in a sweet Martini or with a dash of Fever Tree tonic and a bruised mint leaf.

The bottle details the history of Newton House, reflecting the exciting quality of the gin.

The bottle shape has been designed to work perfectly in any bar, or at home, with the slim but sturdy shape fitting elegantly on a shelf or snug on a speed rail, a large lip at the neck of the bottle, allowing for easy pouring by either the expert or the amateur, creating the perfect tipple.

Our Story

Robin and Jane Cannon purchased Newton House and 60 acres of gardens and grounds in 2007. It was in a very sorry state of decay and during the ten year restoration project every square inch of the house and outbuildings and every square yard of the grounds have been lovingly restored.

The walled gardens now grow a large variety of flowers for cutting, herbaceous borders to enjoy and many botanicals including exciting and colourful edible flowers for cocktails!

In a moment of inspiration Robin and Jane decided to use their unique spring water which is pure and the elixir of life, having seeped gently from the hills surrounding the house for centuries, together with their homegrown botanicals to create a small batch, handcrafted gin. The gin was originally created in Hermione, a 10 litre copper still used to develop delicious libations. After much trialing and many errors the unique recipe was finally agreed and Newton House Gin was born.

Our delicious gin is distilled in Henrietta, a 60 litre copper still, located next to Hermione. Fortunately they do not squabble.

The distillery is located in the old dairy of the house and so is very much part of home, an integral part of Newton House.

Robin is the resident and enthusiastic master distiller, chief bottler and corker.

He ensures the consistency of each distillation and makes sure constant pleasure is the end result. Pure nectar…. flavours of garden freshness, subtle nuances of ancient botanicals and delightful surprises for your taste buds.

Jane is responsible for the precision labeling, decoration and packing of each bottle of delicious gin! In short the end result it is just plain yummy!

The unique design of the bottle and the opulent design of the labels ensures it will stand out on the shelf of any bar or at home and is a real joy to pour for any mixologist and magician in their quest for perfection.

Newton House Gin… Delightful in the glass, subtle on the nose, sensational in the mouth.

Newton House Gin is the perfect partner for any cocktail. Pure magic for the mixologist and magician to make memories.

For a perfectly exciting and memorable G&T add ice with Fever Tree Tonic Water with a carefully trimmed peel of lime.

Newton House Gin is also perfect on ice and sipped neat. Just add a bruised mint leaf or three and a lime wedge to enliven the flavours…. Heaven in a glass.
